Guidelines For Suggesting a Site

Following are some simple guidelines to assist you in submitting your site details. While adhering to these guidelines will not guarantee the acceptance of your submission, it will improve the chances of your site details being listed in an unedited form. Please note that the editors reserve the right to reject listings at their discretion. In the unusual case that a site and/or page listing is rejected, no discussion will be entered into as to why a site and/or page was rejected.

General Rules

  • Sites and/or pages that simply describe other businesses and don't provide the opportunity for the user/viewer to contact the operator/manager of that business directly will generally be rejected.
  • Sites and/or pages that use keyword spamming to maximise their ranking in search results will generally be rejected. This includes the use of hidden text or the inclusion of text that is not relevant to the site's theme or contents.
  • Sites and/or pages that are submitted using automated submission software will generally be rejected unless the content of the site is relevant to travel in Australia and the contact details listed in the submission are true and correct.

Titles

The title should be both informative and concise. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Capitalise the first letter of each word in the title, including the initial article (the, a, an). Don't capitalise these if they're contained elsewhere in the title.
  • Do not capitalise the entire title or end the title with an exclamation mark or any other unnecessary punctuation.
  • Do not include unnecessary symbols and letters. Listings in Australia Travel Search are not sorted alphabetically therefore if "aaa Website" is your title based on the idea of alphabetical sorting, but the website is really called "Website", the "aaa" should not be submitted as part of the title.
  • Do not include words and phrases such as "Welcome to", "Online" and "Homepage"

Title Examples

Bad: Welcome to Mariner Bay Apartments, self contained apartments with kitchens and more!!

Good:Mariner Bay Apartments

Bad: GOLD COAST THINGS TO DO GUIDE

Good: Gold Coast Things To Do Guide

Descriptions

  • The description should provide specific information about your site. A description like "A five star, luxury hotel located in Sydney's CBD. Accommodation includes one and two bedroom suites as well as deluxe suites with spa baths." is more useful than the description "A hotel in Sydney providing a range of accommodation types.". Users should be able to find the site that they want from the descriptions.
  • Where possible the description should also endure time - ie don't include things in the title that will only be relevant for a short period of time unless absolutely necessary (eg. you wouldn't include Olympics in the description or keywords of an accommodation establishment but you would include it in the description of a page relevant to the Olympics.)
  • Note what makes your site different from the rest (eg. offers a booking service - is it simply a "directory" or is it a "guide")
  • Summarise the contents, keeping the description concise (around 25 - 30 words long) and helpful.
  • Don't repeat the title of the site in the description.
  • Capitalise the first letter of the description.
  • Avoid abbreviations and acronyms unless they are generally understood.
  • Avoid repeating the title of the site in the description, however, mention relevant parts of a suitably relevant category if necessary.
  • Eliminate sentences starting with: "This site is..."
  • Do not use emphatic punctuation ( !!! ), all caps to denote emphasis, ampersands ( & ) or ellipses ( ... ) in descriptions.
  • Use logical sentence or phrase structure and proper punctuation.
  • Always use a period at the end of a sentence.
  • Make sure you check your spelling.
